Styling Your Home for Winter

When the weather outside is cold and the wind chill sends shivers down your back, you know winter has come to stay, at least for a little while. It’s around this time of year that we all slow down and stay in where it’s comfortable and warm. Of course, to do this, you have to make sure you space is cozy. This is actually easy to do and, surprisingly, doesn’t require too much time or money. We’ve put together four ways to style your home for winter. Follow these tips and you’ll have a comfy, cozy space to slow down for during these cold months.
Thick Knits
You likely already know that a thick knitted sweater is like a warm hug on a chilly day. The same can be said about throw blankets. Find a large, knitted throw in the colour (and pattern) of your choice, and you’ll add warmth and style to your space.

Patterned Pillows
When you spend a lot of time in one space, things can start to get a little, I hate to say it, boring and flat. Patterned pillows add dimension to your room, giving you something exciting that you can throw around — or just move around calmly. Plus, they’ll make you want to sink into your sofa or bed and never leave.

Warm Lighting
It’s white outside. And I’m not just talking about the snow. Winter sunlight can wash out colour and shines down on the brighter side of the spectrum. Warm, yellow lighting adds, well, warmth to your space, is easier on your eyes, and makes everything just that extra bit cozier. You can take warmth literally as well as visually with candles. The flickering flames will transport you to the fireside. I recommend pairing it with hot cocoa and a good book.

Bountiful Books
Speaking of books. If there were ever a season that personified curling up with a good book, it would be winter. This is the time of year to style your space with literary works. Leave them lying around — on your side tables, coffee table, stacked on the floor bedside your bed. Having reading material scattered around encourages a slower pace and makes your home feel lived in.
